What is the finial choice on Dovecotes?
We offer three finial choices on our bespoke Dovecotes which are the ball, acorn or unique.
What is a unique finial?
As well as offering the traditional Ball or Acorn final we also offer the choice of a unique finial.
Each unique finial is uniquely designed and handcrafted by our in-house carpenters using our top of the range lathes.
No unique finial is exactly the same so if you choose a unique finial, our carpenters will choose a design based on their own design flare at the time.

How are your Dovecotes made?
All of our Dovecotes are uniquely handmade by our in house carpenters in our Lincolnshire workshop.
Each of our bespoke products is crafted using handpicked sustainably sourced FSC certified timber from our local timber merchants.
The timber is treated for wood knots and then painted in exterior primer undercoat followed by a minimum of three coats of Farrow & Ball exterior eggshell paint of your choice.
We use traditional carpentry methods from start to finish taking pride in delivering high quality British crafted garden products.
How are the Dovecotes painted?
All of our bespoke garden products are individually hand-painted using the traditional wooden paintbrush. This begins by undercoating each product using an exterior primer undercoat.
Once dried, this is then followed by a minimum of three coats of Farrow & Ball Exterior eggshell paint in the selected range of colours.
Do you sell unpainted Dovecotes?
At the moment we only sell fully painted bespoke Dovecotes.
Do Dovecotes require maintenance?

What are Dovecotes?
A dovecote is a structure designed to house doves, pigeons, and other small birds dependent on your own preference.
These structures provide a safe environment for pigeons to nest in, as well as create a clear home base for the birds, this encourages them to settle and make a dovecote their ideal home.
For more information please view our blog article by Clicking Here.
Do I need to assemble the Dovecote when it is delivered?
Our Dovecotes will arrive in two pieces when delivered, the post and the main Dovecote structure.
Due to Insurances purposes, we are unable to provide an installation/assembly service.
Please ensure you follow the Dovecote guide when installing.
Do free-standing Dovecotes require a base?
A flat and stable base will be required for the Free-standing Dovecote to sit on.
What is the lead crown on the Dovecote?
We add a hand dressed lead crown to all of our Dovecotes. A lead crown is a covering of lead that is applied between the roof and the finial of the Dovecote preventing water from getting into the roof.
Once applied, we then coat the lead in Patination oil. We do this because when newly fitted Lead is exposed to moisture, it builds up a natural patina in the form of soluble white lead carbonate. Future exposure to rain will wash the carbonate onto adjacent materials causing unsightly staining or discolouration.
Patination Oil is a white spirit based surface treatment that prevents white carbonate from forming on the surface of newly fitted Lead and reduces the risk of staining to adjacent materials.

Do I need to secure down a free-standing Dovecote?

As the British weather is very unpredictable, during times of extreme weather or areas that we very windy you could secure down your Dovecote if you wish.

Fantastic product! We went for a free standing option which allowed us to place at the bottom of the garden where the soil would have been very difficult to dig a hole for a ground fixed option. Also allows the flexibility in case we choose to move in the future. Our Doves love their new home after settling in a few weeks ago. Highly recommend Robinson Garden
