Purchasing Online

Our story began in 2012 whilst visiting a local garden centre in search for an elegant Dovecote. With disappointment, there wasn’t a company that handcrafted bespoke, hand painted Dovecotes with elaborate added touches. It was from there that Dominic and Nigel decided to handcraft one for themselves.

Once the Dovecote was completed, it stood proudly in the front garden gathering a lot of interest from people passing by asking where we had sourced our Dovecote. It was from then that we had recognised a gap in the garden furniture market and the early stages of Robinson Garden were formed.

A dovecote is a structure designed to house doves, pigeons, and other small birds dependent on your own preference. For more information please view our blog article by Clicking Here.

For Ground fixed Dovecotes your Dovecote will be delivered in two parts, the post and the main housing structure of the Dovecote. You will be required to prepare the necessary hole and fit the dovecote yourself following the Robinson Garden guide which is provided before you receive your order.

A flat and stable base will be required for the Free-standing Dovecote to sit on.

We hand deliver our Dovecotes all year round except during January and times of extreme weather conditions.

We add a hand dressed lead crown to all of our Dovecotes. A lead crown is a covering of lead that is applied between the roof and the finial of the Dovecote preventing water getting into the roof.

Once applied we then coat the lead in Patination oil. We do this because when newly fitted Lead is exposed to moisture, it builds up a natural patina in the form of a soluble white lead carbonate. Future exposure to rain will wash the carbonate onto adjacent materials causing unsightly staining or discoloration. Patination Oil is white spirit based surface treatment that prevents white carbonate from forming on the surface of newly fitted Lead and reduces the risk of staining to adjacent materials.

All of our Dog Kennels are hand delivered fully assembled allowing you to use the Dog Kennel straight away.

We hand deliver our Dog Kennels all year round except during January and times of extreme weather conditions.

For Dog Kennels it is not essential but we highly advise that it is placed on a well drained flat surface such as paving slabs . This will also prevent the Dog Kennel sitting in water during the wet weather.

The main housing compartment of the Dog Kennel is raised slightly off the ground.

Slate

We use reclaimed Welsh slate on ALL of our bespoke slated products.

Welsh slate came come in a wide range of colours but they are mostly found to be either a dark grey or purple  colour, please see our gallery pages to see the difference. If you would like your bespoke garden product in a particular slate colour, please let us know via the contact form and we will try our best to accommodate your request.

All of our reclaimed Welsh slate is sourced from a small selection of highly trusted local suppliers. Our carpenters carefully check each slate by hand to ensure all of our bespoke garden products are crafted using the highest quality reclaimed Welsh slate.

By applying the slate / teak Oil it allows the slate to breathe while actively repelling water and dirt enhancing its natural beauty. Slate / teak oil can be purchased from all good hardware stores, garden centres or DIY shops. Pour a small amount of the oil into a small tub, using an old paint brush, lightly coat the roof in the oil.

Providing that slate is maintained, slate can last for generations. The reclaimed Welsh slate that we use has sometimes been on house roofs for hundreds of years and still live up to its high-quality nature when used on our bespoke garden products!

Wood / Timber

We use a wide range a natural timber from softwood to hardwood including, pine, oak, Canadian Western Red Cedar, Mahogany, Beech and much more depending on our client’s requirements. All of our Timber is sustainably sourced and FSC certified.

We ONLY use natural timber and we don’t use Accoya timber. Accoya timber undergoes an extensive modification from a natural resource to a human-modified resource by modifying the chemicals in the natural wood. The process involves changing the free hydroxyls within the wood into acetyl groups. This is done by reacting the wood with acetic anhydride, which comes from acetic acid. When the free hydroxyl group is transformed to an acetyl group, the ability of the wood to absorb water is greatly reduced.

Although this may seem advantageous, this un-natural process also limits the use of water-based paint being used on Accoya wood and instead requiring additional oil based products and paints that are unnecessary and not friendly for the environment.

Absolutely! It is part of our core values to ensure that all of our materials are sourced sustainably to ensure that we protect the environment for future generations and wildlife to enjoy. To ensure all our wood is sustainably sourced, we only purchase Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified timber.

We source our timber for a selected range of local timber merchants who only sell FSC approved timber which is sustainably sourced. Our carpenter’s hand pick all of our wood ensuring the highest quality timber is used for all of our bespoke garden products.

After we hand pick our timber from the timber merchants we thoroughly treat all of our wood for wood knots.
